All breast implants have an exterior sac or shell made of silicone, a rubber-like substance. The implant is filled with one of two substances: silicone gel or saline. For more information on the differences between silicone and saline check our our breast page.

+ Can liposuction be combined with tummy tuck surgery?

Often times Dr. Arbabzadeh can safely combine liposuction of the abdominal area to create a more contoured figure.

+ Can I gain weight after liposuction?

Not all fat cells are removed with liposuction and the remaining cells can still store unused energy (fat) if the person eats more than they use.

+ What will my tummy tuck scar look like?

The length of the scar will be determined by the amount of skin that is removed. While scars will never completely disappear they will fade with time. Most scars will take a full year to mature during which time they will sometimes become darker before they begin to fade.

+ What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is performed using a unique combination of plastic surgery procedures designed to counteract the physical effects of childbearing, and restore and enhance your body. Most commonly it includes breast augmentation with or without a lift and a tummy tuck. For more information, check out our body page.

+ Who is the best candidate for liposuction?

The best candidate for liposuction is someone who is at or near normal weight with localized areas of protruding fat. Liposuction is not a tool to be used for primary weight reduction.

+ How do I know if I am a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

Adults who are close to their ideal body weight but have excess skin and fullness in their abdominal area are the best candidates. A Tummy tuck may be a good option for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight after bariatric surgery or for women who have gone through pregnancy. For more information, check out our body page.

Day of Surgery

+What kind of anesthesia will I have for my surgery?

Our surgeries are performed using general anesthesia except for face lifts which use conscious sedation.

+ Where will my procedure be performed?

Your surgery will be performed at Renaissance Surgery Center adjacent to our office. This state-of-the-art surgery center is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

After Surgery

+ When can I resume regular exercise?

The time a patient needs to take off from exercise depends on the operation performed. All our patients are encouraged to start a slow walking routine around the house on the second postoperative day. Regular aerobic and vigorous activities are not allowed during the first 2 weeks in order to decrease the risk of bleeding, swelling, and bruising. Weight lifting and high impact (running) activities are not allowed for at least 1 month in most cases.

+ How much time will I have to take off from work to recuperate?

The length of time it takes to recover from surgery varies depending on the procedure and the individual person. Most patients will require assistance for the first two days and then are able to care for themselves. Patients with young children may need help for a longer period of time. Here is a list of common times associated with some of our most popular procedures.

  • Breast Surgery: Usually can get around independently by the second day. May return to work at 5-7 days if not required to lift more than 10 pounds.
  • Liposuction: Usually can get around independently by the second day. Can return to work and normal activities in 5-7 days.
  • Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck): Usually can get around independently by the second day. May return to work at 5-7 days if not required to lift more than 10 pounds.
  • Face Lift: Usually can get around independently by the second day. May return to work at 5-7 days if not required to lift more than 10 pounds.
